Rev. Elgin Edwards

There is a local expression that we move forward best by looking back.

I was born in Darjeeling India to missionary parents who returned to New Zealand where I was educated. Later as an adult returned to India as a missionary and teacher for 4 years.

Growing up in a Christian home I learned to love God for myself.

In 1995 I was blessed to marry Maureen.  We lived in Tokoroa where we played music for church service, ran a youth group and served on the vestry of the local church.  It was while we were serving in the church and after several years of study that Bishop David Moxon ordained me as a priest.

Maureen and I have a blended family of six children and a foster daughter, and we have 16 grandchildren. Amazing and fun.

Life directions

We have sought God about our life directions and God brought us back to the North in 2009 to serve in the local church in the Waimate North Parish and a few years later I was appointed priest in charge.

Learning and teaching has been a lifetime activity and it is a joy to share in pastoral work in our parish.

We are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His teaching. We believe that we can receive God’s Holy Spirit and be blessed by Him if we give God a chance.
